PROFILE - AYANDA NYUSWA: taking his passion beyond the radio waves
Name: Ayanda Nyuswa
Age: 29
Hometown: Umzinto, KwaZulu-Natal
Ayanda Nyuswa is no rookie in the world of sports broadcasting. He is currently a sports presenter, reporter and content producer for Gagasi FM.
The KwaZulu Natal native began his journey at RadioDUT while he was studying Sports Management at the Durban University of Technology. His undeniable talent took him from campus radio to an even bigger platform when he joined Durban Youth Radio, a community radio station, in 2020.
He only spent a year and a half before Gagasi FM snatched him up.
“I auditioned on campus radio in 2016 and they took me. I worked as a sports presenter, doing bulletins and a bit of content production as well. I did campus radio for four years,” he says.
Throughout the years Ayanda has covered some of the big sporting stories in the country recently, including Bafana Bafana’s 1-1 draw against Nigeria in the FIFA World Cup African qualifier in Bloemfontein.
LIFELONG DREAM
Progression to television broadcasting is an inevitable step for Ayanda. The opportunity to enter the SuperSport MVP Talent Search was a no brainer for him.
“I decided to enter because joining SuperSport has been a lifelong dream for me since I started my career. I have always seen it as the ultimate goal and dream. As much as I have done radio for as long as I have, television has always been a dream.
"Getting into SuperSport is not easy, especially if you have no experience in TV. I have never done any TV (work) apart from podcasts. I saw this opportunity as the best one, I felt it’s a once-in-a lifetime one time opportunity that I cannot miss,” explains Ayanda.
The multifaceted journalist hopes that he will be part of the team that will bring updates either from the touchline of rugby, cricket or football matches or as part of the SuperSport Blitz team with news updates while working towards being in studio as an anchor one day.
