Suryakumar helps Mumbai crush Delhi to clinch playoff berth
Suryakumar Yadav compiled a brilliant 73* from 43 balls to lead the Mumbai Indians to a total of 180-5 and victory by 59 runs in their IPL match against the Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday.
New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner (4-0-11-3) was outstanding during the run-chase as was the imperious Jasprit Bumrah (3-12) as the Capitals capitulated miserably to 121 all out in 18.2 overs.

Delhi’s five bowlers produced an immaculate performance for the first 18 overs of MI’s innings before the wheels fell off in the final two when Mumbai’s innings was utterly transformed with the addition of 48 runs with Mukesh Kumar (2-48) conceding 27 in the 19th and Sri Lankan Dushmantha Chameera (1-54) another 21 in the final over.
Ryan Rickelton (25 from 18 balls) and Englishman Will Jacks (21 off 13) ensured a quick start from MI but Tilak Varma (27 from 27 balls) was tied down by the brilliant Kuldeep Yadav (1-22) and Bangladeshi left-armer Mustafizur Rahman (1-30) and when captain Hardik Pandya (3) was caught in the deep the total was just 123-5 with only 3.3 overs remaining.
Suryakumar remained calm, however, and his class came to the rescue with a flurry of sensational boundaries (7x4, 4x6) while the contribution of Naman Dhir was even more explosive and important as the 25-year-old allrounder smashed an unbeaten 24 from just eight balls, half of which were dispatched for a pair of fours and sixes.

A crestfallen Capitals line-up were rudely dismantled with two snappy stumpings from Rickelton and a couple of classic Bumrah slower-balls contributing to their demise.
The result confirmed Mumbai’s qualification for the playoff stages and Delhi’s elimination.
MI join Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings in the playoffs but there is still room for manoeuvre amidst the top four with just two points separating the teams and a coveted top-two place still available to them all.
