Africa’s star names head into a crucial set of 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers this week as attention turns from club to country.

There were several top performers in Europe’s top leagues this past weekend, with Ghana wingers all the rage as Antoine Semenyo and Mohammed Kudus continue their excellent starts to the season in the Premier League.

ANTOINE SEMENYO (GHANA & BOURNEMOUTH)

Next fixture: Crystal Palace (a)

Another week, another huge contribution to the Bournemouth cause by Antoine Semenyo as his two goals and an assist helped turn the game around against Fulham in a 3-1 victory for the Cherries. The 25-year-old now has nine goal contributions in seven Premier League games this season (six goals, three assists) and is arguably the form winger in England. Fulham took the lead, but Bournemouth equalised when Semenyo scored from the tightest of angles, rolling the ball through the legs of goalkeeper Bernd Leno. His pass then allowed Justin Kluivert to drive towards goal and score a superb second. Semenyo then made the points safe with his second goal, a neat first-time finish deep into injury time. There is no doubt he is in the form of his life.

MOHAMMED KUDUS (GHANA & TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR)

Next fixture: Aston Villa (h)

Another Ghana winger who is in incredible form, Kudus scored the winner for Tottenham Hotspur at Leeds United, having earlier provided an assist. He flicked the ball on for Mathys Tel to score Spurs’ opener for a fourth assist of the season, drawing him level at the top of the table with Everton’s Jack Grealish. Leeds equalised, but Kudus had the final say as his low drive from the edge of the box deflected into the net, but remains his goal. He will hope that is the first of many goals this campaign.

AKOR ADAMS (NIGERIA & SEVILLA)

Next fixture: Mallorca (h)

Sevilla secured a stunning 4-1 victory over Barcelona on Sunday with their final goal scored by Nigerian Adams, who netted for the second LaLiga game in a row. Adams came off the bench on the hour mark with Sevilla holding a slender 2-1 lead and helped his side to one of their more famous wins in the last few years. It also takes Sevilla up to sixth in the table. It was a simple tap-in for the 25-year-old, but he will say he had to be in the right place at the right time. That is two goals and an assist for the striker in three starts this campaign.

INAKI WILLIAMS (GHANA & ATHLETIC CLUB)

Next fixture: Elche (a)

It has been a bit of a slow start to the season by Williams’ high standards, but he got off the mark in the goals column with a penalty as Athletic Bilbao defeated Mallorca 2-1. Williams had won the penalty when he was fouled in the box at a corner and stepped up to convert, the ball slipping just under the goalkeeper. It was his first goal contribution of any kind in eight starts this campaign. He will miss Ghana’s final World Cup qualifiers, though, after picking up an injury in the game.

ETTA EYONG (CAMEROON & LEVANTE)

Next fixture: Rayo Vallecano (h)

Levante may have had a tough start to the season, but have found a gem in Eyong, who netted his fourth goal in five games in the 2-0 win over Quinton Fortune’s Real Oviedo. The 21-year-old joined from Villarreal at the start of the season, where he had been barely used, and has made an immediate impact. If you include his first few games of the season for the Yellow Submarine, he has five goals and three assists in eight LaLiga matches. His goal against Oviedo came as he reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box and stabbed it into the net. What a prospect he looks like!

ANDRE-FRANK ZAMBO ANGUISSA (CAMEROON & NAPOLI)

Next fixture: Torino (a)

Napoli had to come from behind but secured a 2-1 victory over Genoa that ensures they go into the international break at the top of the Serie A table. They trailed just before the hour mark until Anguissa found a leveller. Genoa failed to clear a high ball into the box, and as the defenders stood static, the Cameroon midfielder headed into the net to make it 1-1. It was his second goal and third goal contribution of the campaign in five starts.
