Prenelan Subrayen finished with five wickets to help South Africa A (SA ‘A’) beat West Indies A by an innings and 88 runs in the first four-day match at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Saint Lucia on Wednesday.

Together with Tristan Luus, the pair claimed all four wickets needed on the final day to put the tourists 1-0 up in the two-match series.

Off-break bowler Subrayen, who starred with bat and ball on the previous day, ended with excellent figures of five for 82 in 30 overs, while seamer Luus grabbed four for 86.

The hosts were bowled out for 272, meaning their last four wickets managed just 21 on the final morning as they were easily rolled over by the visitors.

West Indies had started off the day in a fix on 251 for six, though Ronaldo Alimohamed (40) was digging in with.

But he lacked support at the other end as new man Khary Pierre fell for a 19-ball duck when he was caught by Subrayen off the bowling of Luus three runs into the day.

Johann Layne (12) was next in, but fell to spinner Subrayen just under three overs later, before Oshane Thomas fell to the same bowler for an eight-ball duck.

That left Alimohamed fighting by himself until he was last man out, bowled by Luus, sealing a fine win for the South Africans.

The final match of the tour begins at the same venue on Sunday.
