Blue Bulls Rugby Union launches Sibanye-Stillwater Super League

The BBRU has announced the Sibanye-Stillwater Super League 2026 edition, the biggest cross-border club competition in South Africa.

Willem Strauss, President of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, said that the new league, an extension of last year’s Castle Super League, has expanded to 40 clubs from six different rugby provinces that will compete in a Cup, Shield and Women’s divisions, respectively.

“The remarkable growth of this league is due to our new title sponsor, Sibanye Stillwater, as well as the support of the associated sponsors, SA Breweries, Konica Minolta and Xco Sport,” said Strauss.

The Sibanye-Stillwater Super League now also offers exposure and growth opportunities for clubs in the Blue Bulls President’s League, the women’s clubs, and the Limpopo leagues. Participation and prize money of close to R2-million is at stake across the three divisions.

The women’s competition will focus on development by training the coaches and players through the involvement of Swys de Bruin, the Springbok women’s coach.

“We’re also very excited to unite behind our team, the Sibanye-Stillwater Warriors, who we believe will make a lasting impact in the Super League and touch many lives around us this year.”

Jaco Dames, General Manager of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union (BBRU), also announced that SABC and Heritage Broadcasting have been appointed as the official broadcasting partners of the Sibanye-Stillwater Super League for the 2026 season.

This strategic partnership marks a significant milestone in the continued growth and professionalisation of club rugby in South Africa. Through SABC and Heritage Broadcasting’s national television, radio, and digital platforms, the Sibanye-Stillwater Super League will enjoy unprecedented exposure, bringing club rugby to communities across the country.
