What has been going on in LALIGA this past week, March 10? Here are 10 of the top stories, from Vinícius’ incredible goal to Valencia CF’s rise out of the relegation zone.

The past week has been a busy one for several Spanish clubs, with European fixtures followed by matchday 27 of LaLiga. The most eye-catching results and storylines are discussed below.

Getafe CF defeat Simeone’s Atlético de Madrid for the first time

One of the most dramatic matches of matchday 27 was Getafe CF v Atlético de Madrid, with three goals scored in the final 15 minutes. After Alexander Sørloth put Atleti ahead, Mauro Arambarri scored two late goals to turn it around and earn Getafe CF a 2-1 win. It’s the first time in Diego Simeone’s 28 clashes with Los Azulones that the Argentinian has suffered defeat.

Vinícius’ mesmerising goal earns Real Madrid victory

There was another Madrid derby this past weekend, as Real Madrid took on and defeated Rayo Vallecano 2-1. The decisive moment turned out to be Vinícius’ first-half goal, which he scored after dribbling and dribbling around opposition defenders in mesmerising fashion.

Valencia CF escape the relegation zone

For the first time since September, Valencia CF are outside of the relegation zone. Los Che finally climbed out of the bottom three, doing so courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Real Valladolid in which January signing Umar Sadiq scored once again.

UD Las Palmas fall into the relegation zone

Valencia CF’s place in the bottom three has been taken by UD Las Palmas, who lost 1-0 away at Real Betis on Sunday. Los Amarillos haven’t won any league game in 2025 yet, and are now desperately seeking a spark.

Deportivo Alavés pull off a miracle win

Deportivo Alavés remain in the relegation zone, along with UD Las Palmas and Real Valladolid. However, the Basque side had a lot to celebrate this weekend as they secured a 1-0 victory over Villarreal CF while finishing the game with nine men. Their first red card arrived before an hour was played, but they managed to nurse the lead from Manu Sánchez’s early goal all the way to the end.

RC Celta and Sevilla FC climb into the top half

RC Celta and Sevilla FC are now in ninth and 10th position, following victories in Matchday 27. In the case of the Galician club, they overcame CD Leganés 2-1, while Sevilla FC won 1-0 away at Real Sociedad.

FC Barcelona mourn the passing of Carles Miñarro Garcia

There was sad news at FC Barcelona over the weekend, as first-team doctor Carles Miñarro Garcia passed away on Saturday. This led to the postponement of FC Barcelona v CA Osasuna, which will now be played at a later date.

CD Mirandés return to the top of LaLiga HYPERMOTION

In LaLiga HYPERMOTION, Spain’s second tier, CD Mirandés have reclaimed top spot thanks to a 1-0 victory over Real Oviedo. Levante UD are in second, but it’s ever so tight at the top of the table as just one point separates the top four.

Two finely poised ties in the Champions League

Three Spanish sides were involved in the Champions League last 16, and two of them were facing off against each other. In a European derby between Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid, the first leg finished in a 2-1 victory to Los Blancos, so it’s all still to play for. Similarly, FC Barcelona earned a 1-0 win away at Benfica, but know they still have work to do in the second leg in Catalonia.

All still to play for in the Europa League and Conference League

It’s a similar story when it comes to Spain’s three other European representatives. In the Europa League, Real Sociedad and Manchester United drew 1-1 in their first leg. And, Athletic Club lost 2-1 away at Roma but will look to turn that tie around back in Bilbao. Then, in the Conference League, it’s 2-2 at the halfway stage between Real Betis and Vitória de Guimarães.
