Matchday 33 of this LaLiga EA Sports season should be a thrilling one, with two Madrid derbies coming up and with both these fixtures having a lot at stake, in the title race and in the battle to qualify for Europe.

It’ll be an action-packed midweek in Spain’s capital, with all five of the Madrid teams playing within the Community of Madrid, as four of the capital city clubs face off among each other and as the other, CD Leganés, host Girona FC.

GETAFE OUT FOR SURVIVAL, REAL CONTINUE TITLE CHARGE

Getafe CF v Real Madrid is one of the Madrid derbies football fans can enjoy this week, with these two clubs facing off at 9:30pm CEST on Wednesday 23 April.

In the case of the home side, they’re looking to confirm their status in the top flight as soon as possible, something they’re likely to achieve but that still isn’t mathematically confirmed. They’re eight points clear of the relegation zone as things stand, but there are six matchdays still to go. Then, they can aim higher, and possibly push for a European spot.

For Real Madrid, they’re right in the mix of the LaLiga EA Sports title race, currently four points behind FC Barcelona. That makes this trip to the Coliseium so important for Los Blancos, and they’ll be aware that they’ve had some struggles at this ground in recent years.

From their past six visits to the home of Los Azulones, Real Madrid have come away with just three wins, two draws and also a defeat, a 1-0 loss back on January 2nd 2022 when Enes Ünal scored the only goal.

ATLETICO CHASE TITLE, RAYO EUROPEAN DREAM

The next night, on Thursday 24 April, Atlético de Madrid and Rayo Vallecano meet in another Madrid derby, with this one kicking off at 9:30pm CEST at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. Atleti still have faint hopes of winning the title, even if their recent results have cost them, such as a 1-0 loss at UD Las Palmas that leaves them 10 points off first place.

Meanwhile, Rayo Vallecano are just two points way from the final European spot, and three away from a Europa League berth. So, Los Franjirrojos still have a lot to play for in the final weeks of the season. They haven’t won away at Atleti in LaLiga EA Sports in the past 26 years, though, not achieving an away win against their neighbours since 22 August 1999.

There was a Copa del Rey win on October 10th 2001 too, but they haven’t defeated Los Rojiblancos on the road since then. This week, in this matchday of derbies, Rayo Vallecano will seek to write some new history, at this crucial stage of the season.
