David Miller smashed 16 runs from three balls in the final over to lead Delhi Capitals to a thrilling six-wicket victory with a ball to spare in their Tata IPL match against the high flying Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday afternoon.

Miller and Tristan Stubbs required 37 from the final three overs replying to RCB’s 175-8 and 15 from the final over which was bowled by West Indian Romario Shepherd, his first over of the innings.

Two singles from the first two balls left DC requiring 13 from the final four but Shepherd delivered a low full toss which Miller despatched high over mid wicket before slashing another, extraordinary six over extra cover to level the scores.

The penultimate delivery was whipped to midwicket boundary to take Delhi to 179-4.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar (4-0-26-3) was outstanding in the Power Play for RCB taking 3-9 in his first two overs but KL Rahul bravely counter-attacked with 57 from 34 balls in a partnership of 69 with Stubbs who was battling to score at a run-a-ball for the majority of his innings.

But Stubbs finally came good with an unbeaten 60 from 47 balls with just four fours and one six during an innings which appeared on course to lose the game rather than win it for much of his time at the crease.

But he knew he had to rebuild – and he knew that Miller was to come - and that he was perfectly capable of finishing 22* from 10 balls, which he did.

It was a strangely disjointed innings from the in-form Royal Challengers after an opening stand of 52 between Virat Kohli and Englishman Phil Salt who top scored with a lusty 63 from 38 balls until he flat-batted wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav (4-0-32-2) to long on.

Kohli (19) was undone by Lungi Ngidi’s infamous slower ball and sliced a drive to deep cover, Devdutt Padikkal (18) drove the excellent Axar Patel (3-0-18-2) to Miller at long off and big-hitting Aussie, Tim David, edged Axar to short third man to depart for 26 from 17 deliveries.

Mukesh Kumar (1-32) and Ngidi (2-39) were both impressive at either end of the innings and RCB’s total always looked 15-20 runs short of a par score at the historically high scoring venue.

It was RCB’s second defeat in six games but they remain in second place with eight points while DC climb to fourth with six points from their three victories from five matches.
