Durban City recorded their eighth win of the campaign in the Betway Premiership when they brushed aside TS Galaxy 2-0 at the Chatsworth Stadium on Friday night.

Despite the win, City, who were playing their first game since the dismissal of coach Sinethemba Badela, remained sixth in the league standings - two points behind third-placed Kaizer Chiefs.

The PSL Premiership debutants' next league game is away at Marumo Gallants on March 1 and they will be looking to make it two consecutive victories.

The Rockets, on the other hand, also remained seventh in the standings after recording their third consecutive defeat in league - level on points with eighth-placed Polokwane City.

Coach Adnan Beganovic's side will be determined to bounce back to winning ways in the league when they take on Siwelele FC away on February 28.

The first half saw the two teams create several chances, but most of their attempts were either blocked or missed the target.

Darren Keet was called into action on the stroke of halftime and the City goalkeeper produced a decent save to deny Mory Keita to ensure that the first half ended goalless.

City piled pressure on the Rockets after the restart and Bokang Mokwena forced keeper Ira Tape into making a fine save in the 57th minute.

Tape was then beaten by his teammate Patrick Fisher six minutes after the hour-mark as the 23-year-old right-back netted an own goal to hand Galaxy a 1-0 lead.

Luphumlo Sifumba was introduced by City's interim coach, Pitso Dladla, with 19 minutes left and the 20-year-old proved to be an inspired substitute.

The Cape Town City product netted his first professional goal in the 87th minute to seal City's 2-0 win, with Keet providing the assist and also recording a clean sheet on the night.
