Rise and Shine pay price for missed chances as Arrows win
Golden Arrows snapped their winless streak in the Betway Premiership when they grabbed a crucial 1-0 away win against Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Polokwane City showed attacking intent from the very whistle, despite having less of the ball than their opponents in the first 45 minutes of play.
City’s Bonginkosi Dlamini’s long-range shot caused a bit of danger and was quite threatening, however, his effort went just over the crossbar in the beginning stages of the first half.
Fifteen minutes later, Nduduzo Sibiya and Knox Mutizwa linked up for Arrows on the other end, however, nothing came of it as the Rise and Shine defence did well to deal with the danger.
As the half neared its end, Cole Alexander’s slicing shot led to a corner being awarded as the home team dominated from an attacking perspective.
By the time the halftime whistle came, it was the home side who looked the better team, but they could not find the final product in order to get onto the scoresheet in Polokwane.
The home side would come to rue their missed chances early in the second half as Arrows grabbed the lead in the 48th minute through Mutizwa’s successful attempt when he chipped the keeper from the far post.
Abafana Bes’Thende now had a renewed sense of confidence and continued to dominate possession.
In the 64th minute, Simon Ramabu came close to scoring, but he could not get on the end of the ball as it swept across the goal.
Oswin Appollis tried to work an effort from just outside the box and it was on target shortly afterwards, but it was saved by Arrows keeper Ismail Watenga.
The remaining 10 minutes saw Arrows defend their lead until the end to ensure they walked away with all three points.
