Lehlohonolo Mojela has a 50-50 chance of playing again this season for Stellenbosch after suffering a serious knee injury in training last year.

Mojela last played for Stellenbosch in the MTN8 final against Orlando Pirates in Durban in October and the next month had surgery for what the club said was “to address a reoccurrence of a pre-existing knee injury”.

At the time, Mojela was ruled out for the rest of the season but coach Steve Barker says there is a chance he might yet play for the club before the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

“According to him, he says he wants to play in March,” quipped Barker, “but realistically, it's 50-50 whether he gets onto the park this season.

“If so, it would be late April and maybe in May. But again, you know, once you get to that stage, do you risk it for the last three, four games as opposed to then just rather waiting till next season?

“But I think where we are in the league and how he's feeling, there's a slim opportunity that he could still play this season,” added the coach.

Stellenbosch are without an established striker since the injury. Mojela had been signed from TS Galaxy to replace Iqraam Rayners who left for Sundowns.
