Stellenbosch FC fought back to hold Richards Bay to a 1-1 draw in the Betway Premiership match played at the Danie Craven Stadium on Friday night.

The result saw Stellies remain seventh in the standings after registering their sixth league draw of the season and coach Steve Barker's side will be targeting nothing but a win when they host Magesi FC on 25 February.

The Natal Rich Boys, on the other hand, also remained 13th in the standings after recording their fifth league draw of the season and coach Ronnie Gabriel will be keen to ensure that his side return to winning ways when they host Chippa United on 1 March.

The Natal Rich Boys got off to the perfect start as they broke the deadlock as early as the second minute.

Thato Mohlamme was the man who found the back of the net to hand Richards Bay a 1-0 lead after Stellies had failed to clear their lines.

Stellies rallied forward as they looked to level matters with Khomotjo Lekoloane forcing goalkeeper Salim Magoola into making a save in the 20th minute.

Stellies then struggled to keep their attempts at goal on target and the score was 1-0 to Richards Bay at halftime.

The hosts applied more pressure on the Richards Bay defence after the restart and Magoola became a busy man.

The Ugandan star denied substitute Langelihle Phili twice as he saved the 20-year-old's attempts in the 59th minute and 61st minute.

Pressure mounted on the Natal Rich Boys as they gave away a penalty in the 74th minute with Keagan Allan fouling Lesiba Nku in the box.

Fawaaz Basadien stepped up and netted his seventh goal of the season from the spot-kick to ensure that the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
