Cape Town City avoided a fifth successive Betway Premiership defeat when they drew 1-1 with TS Galaxy at the Athlone Stadium on Wednesday night.

Therefore, the Citizens remained 10th in the standings after registering their fourth league draw of the season.

Coach Muhsin Ertugral will now turn his attention to a league match against his former club, Kaizer Chiefs, which is scheduled for 12 March.

The Rockets, on the other hand, also remained seventh in the standings after fighting back to deny the Citizens a win.

Coach Adnan Beganovic's side will be keen to return to winning ways when they face SuperSport United in a league clash on 11 March.

The two teams attacked each other with speed from the first whistle and it was the hosts who opened the scoring.

Darwin Gonzalez was the man who broke the deadlock in the 31st minute to hand City a 1-0 lead.

However, the lead only lasted for eight minutes as Mlungisi Mbunjana levelled matters after the Citizens' defence was exposed.

The score was 1-1 during the halftime break following a lively first half.

The Citizens launched attacks after the restart and coach Ertugral decided to make changes in the 62nd minute - pulling out Frank Makaringe and introducing new signing Thulani Serero, who was making his debut for City.

The last chance of the game fell for Siphamandla Dondolo in the 90th minute, but the 21-year-old was denied by goalkeeper Ira Eliezer Tape, who ensured that the match ended in a 1-1 draw on the night.
