Magesi breathed new life into their Betway Premiership survival bid after securing a 2-0 victory over Cape Town City at the Seshego Stadium on Saturday.

Goals in each half from Mcedi Vandala and Lehlohonolo Mtshali handed Dikwena tsa Meetse only their second league win of the season as they climbed off the foot of the table for the first time since December.

Muhsin Ertugral's side have now lost three of their last five games and they've dropped to seventh place in the standings as a result.

The Limpopo outfit were desperate to snap a 12-match winless streak which had left them five points adrift of safety.

The visitors enjoyed 63% of the possession in the first half, but they didn't manage a single shot on goal and had just two touches inside the opposition box.

Owen Da Gama's side made much better use of the ball when they had it, fashioning four attempts at goal, although Darren Keet wasn't tested at all.

Magesi suffered a blow when Wonderboy Makhubu was forced off through injury in the 28th minute, but Thabang Sibanyoni made a swift impact off the bench after winning a penalty five minutes later.

Vandala made no mistake from 12 yards out to register his second goal in two games after opening the scoring against Chippa United in midweek.

Trailing 1-0 at the break, Ertugral made an immediate change, bringing on Sibusiso Ziba for Lorenzo Gordinho and he used his full quota of substitutes by the 71-minute mark.

However, it didn't have the desired effect despite the Citizens pushing forward in numbers as the second half progressed. They fell further behind on 73 minutes, with former Sekhukhune United midfielder Mtshali bagging his first goal for the club.

Their best chance came on 82 minutes when Gabriel Amato lined up a shot from outside the box that flew inches wide of the target.
