Magesi & Sekhukhune share spoils in Limpopo
Magesi failed to add to their four-match winning streak in the Betway Premiership this week after jotting down a 1-1 draw alongside Sekhukhune United at the Seshego Stadium on Saturday evening.
In what was an encounter dominated by Sekhukhune United, goals in either half by Delano Abrahams and Chibuike Ohizu saw the two sides share the spoils in their latest league assignment.
Magesi showcased their attacking intent immediately after the first whistle, as the likes of Kayden Rademeyer and Thabang Sibanyoni found themselves in advanced positions of the pitch. While both players were flagged offside following their efforts, Magesi continued to apply pressure thereafter.
Then, after making way inside the Babina Noko box, Magesi took the lead in the 14th minute as Abrahams hit the mark with a right-footed shot inside the Sekhukhune box.
Despite Magesi’s lead, Sekhukhune bossed the possession count midway through the first half, but struggled to make the most of their opportunities going forward.
While Sekhukhune held most of the ball, Magesi looked to threaten the opposition defence in transitional moments, but ultimately had their attempts neutralised in the final third.
Sekhukhune saw up to 68 per cent ball possession after the restart but had little to show for their activity on the ball. Magesi, on the other hand, continued to sit back while waiting for the opportune time to play on the counter-attack.
Babina Noko’s pressure eventually paid off in the 78th minute, as Ohizu levelled matters with a right-footed effort inside the Magesi 18-yard area following a swift move inside the Magesi half.
With wind in their sails, Sekhukhune piled on the pressure as the clock ran down at the Seshego Stadium. However, neither side were able to affect the scoreboard thereafter and they were forced to share points after 90 minutes of football.
