Richards Bay and Chippa United could not be separated in their latest Betway Premiership assignment this weekend following a tense 0-0 draw at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban on Saturday night.

The game commenced at a slow pace, as neither side created many scoring chances during the first five minutes.

However, the Natal Rich Boyz saw most of the ball during this period, with Chippa looking to pounce in counter-attacking situations.

When the dust settled in Umlazi, Richards Bay and Chippa began breaching each other’s defensive lines and manufactured notable scoring chances midway through the first half.

Richards Bay came closest to opening the scoring after Thulani Gumede hit the woodwork from a long-range shot in the 26th minute.

Gumede’s effort appeared to have motivated his teammates to test the Chippa goalkeeper from range, however, Richards Bay were unable to find a way through at the end of the first half.

Chippa likewise threatened late on, as seen with Thabang Malaoa’s headed effort inside the box.

Nevertheless, the score remained at 0-0 at the half-way point of the match.

The second half began with both sides eager to get on the scoresheet, as Richards Bay continued to test Stanley Nwabali from distance.

Chippa, on the other hand, looked to make way down the left-flank, as seen with progressions from Malebogo Modise and Giovanni Philander.

As the two sides turned to their bench for some reinforcements, it was Richards Bay who looked most likely to score in the second half given the amount of pressure created in the opposition half.

Richards Bay once again had a shot from outside the box saved as Ntlonelo Bomelo made a decent attempt at opening the scoreboard in the 79th minute.

Chippa struggled to make any sort of impact on the game and were reduced to hitting the hosts on the break.

With both sides failing to hit the mark, the game ended in a 0-0 stalemate in Durban.
