Cape Town City ease relegation concerns with Stellies draw  

Cape Town City and Stellenbosch FC settled for a 0-0 draw in their Betway Premiership match played at the DHL Cape Town Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

As a result, the Citizens climbed up to the 14th spot in the league standings as they eased their relegation fears, having played their last game of the season.

Stellies secured their spot in next season's CAF Confederation Cup after finishing third in the league standings, as fourth-placed Sekhukhune United were defeated by Arrows in their last game of the season.

The intensity was high in the Cape Derby as both teams launched attacks and goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke was forced to make a save to deny Amadou Soukouna in the 14th minute, before Andre De Jong's header was saved by Darren Keet at the other end in the 22nd minute.

The two teams continued to create chances as Thulani Serero was denied by Masuluke in the 34th minute.

Keet then saved attempts from Sanele Barns in the 39th minute and Fawaaz Basadien a minute later.

The score was 0-0 at half-time following a lively first-half in the Mother City.

The Citizens applied pressure on Stellies after the restart and Masuluke became a busy man.

The towering shot-stopper denied both Lorenzo Gordinho and Serero in the 54th minute as the hosts looked to break the deadlock.

Both teams launched attacks in the latter stages of the match and the last goalscoring opportunity fell for Langelihle Phili.

However, the South Africa under-20 international's effort was saved by Keet, who ensured that the Cape Derby encounter ended in a 0-0 draw on the day.
