AmaZulu FC emerged as 2-0 winners over Cape Town City in the Betway Premiership match played at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi on Sunday afternoon.

As a result, Usuthu climbed up to the fifth spot in the league standings as Arthur Zwane started his tenure as sole head coach with a win.

Zwane will be targeting a third successive win when Usuthu face SuperSport United on 5 March.

The Citizens, on the other hand, remained 10th in the standings after registering a fourth consecutive defeat in the league.

The Mother City side will be determined to return to winning ways when they lock horns with TS Galaxy on 5 March.

The Citizens got off to a decent start and goalkeeper Richard Ofori was called into action twice in the opening exchanges of the match.

The Ghana international made two saves to deny Jaedin Rhodes in the fifth minute and 10th minute.

Usuthu grew gradually into the match and they broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute.

Tshepang Moremi's low cross from the left was turned home by Elmo Kambindu and AmaZulu were leading 1-0 during the halftime break in Durban.

Usuthu continued to attack after the restart as they looked to double their lead.

Moremi grabbed his second assist of the match when he set up Nkosikhona Radebe who made 2-0 to AmaZulu in the 62nd minute - the right-back's second goal in as many games.

Coach Muhsin Ertugral pulled out ineffective Darwin Gonzalez and introduced Heaven Sereetsi in the 83rd minute as the Citizens looked to score at least two late goals.

However, AmaZulu stood firm at the back and ultimately secured a 2-0 win on the day.
