In what was another night to forget for Kaizer Chiefs in the Betway Premiership this week, Amakhosi slumped to a heavy 4-1 defeat against a spirited SuperSport United outfit at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday night.

Former Chiefs attackers Samir Nurkovic and Christian Saile were in inspired form against their old employers and undertook Gavin Hunt’s instructions in clinical fashion as seen in their efforts throughout the 90 minutes.

The game commenced at a rapid pace at the FNB Stadium, with SuperSport making their intentions known from the first whistle. Amakhosi were caught on the back foot early on as SuperSport took the direct route toward goal.

SuperSport’s pressure paid off in the third minute of the encounter as they took the lead via Nurkovic. After an incisive move on the right flank, Gamphani Lungu found Nurkovic with a dangerous ball inside the area before the Serbian guided the ball home with ease.

Not sitting down, the Glamour Boys responded at the half-hour mark as Makabi Lilepo joined Nurkovic on the scoreboard. After penetrating the SuperSport backline, Pule Mmodi latched onto a parried effort from the goalkeeper inside the 18-yard area before picking out Lilepo, who guided the ball home with a header from close range.

The score remained level for only two minutes after Saile scored against his former side in the 32nd minute. Nurkovic, who got proceedings underway against his ex-colleagues, beat the offside trap with a well-timed run inside the Chiefs half before picking out Saile who comfortably guided the ball into the back of the net.

Amakhosi started the second half on the front foot and saw most of the ball leading up to the 60th-minute mark. However, SuperSport added to the Glamour Boys’ woes in the 63rd minute after Lungu joined in on the fun. In an attempt to find Nurkovic inside the penalty area, Lebohang Maboe’s low cross was parried by Bruce Bvuma, which fell in Lungu’s direction as he subsequently scored from close range.

There was no letting up from SuperSport at the popular Calabash stadium after Siphesihle Nlovu added Matsatsantsa’s fourth goal in the 83rd minute.

SuperSport saw out the game as winners in Johannesburg with a 4-1 win against the Soweto juggernauts.
