Cape Town City’s fate still in own hands says coach

Cape Town City’s search for a top eight place at the end of season remains in their own hands said coach Eric Tinkler after his side were held to a 1-1 draw by TS Galaxy in the DStv Premiership in Cape Town on Sunday.

The result left City in seventh place in the standings and still with the chance of being piped to a top eight slot.

In their past seven season in the top flight, City have never failed to finish in the top eight but must win one of their last two games to be sure this time round.

They are at home to Richards Bay on Saturday and then finish the season away at already crowned champions Mamelodi Sundowns next Saturday.

Tinkler said he was disappointed they had not secured their top eight place by beating TS Galaxy.

“This was a massive game and we tried to explain that to the players the importance of this game. We needed the three points to reach our objectives, but everything is in our hands at the end of the day.”

Now the clash against Richards Bay was now a priority before start to plan for the trip to Sundowns, said Tinkler.

“I think we want to make sure that we secure that top eight position and then let's go into that game against Sundowns with a belief that we can go there and take something away from them.”

The City coach said he believed the unbeaten champions could be beaten.

“I think every team in this league is beatable. We saw that on the weekend. Stellenbosch after their 25-match unbeaten run in which they've really looked good and lost to Swallows and then you saw the Pirates game.

“Everyone's talking about Pirates finishing second and they end up losing to Richards Bay. So I think everybody is beatable on the day,” he added.
