Sundowns & Durban City surge up as Magesi drop into danger zone

Matchday nine of the 2025-26 Betway Premiership saw defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns claim the top spot in the standings, while Magesi FC dropped into the relegation zone.
Tashreeq Matthews (brace), Iqraam Rayners and Malibongwe Khoza scored for Sundowns as they returned to winning ways with a 4-1 win over Richards Bay in Pretoria, where Frank Mhango netted the visitors' consolation goal on Saturday.
This was after second-placed Sekhukhune United had dropped points following their 1-0 defeat to Polokwane City in the Limpopo Derby, with Mokibelo Ramabu scoring the only goal of the Limpopo Derby clash.
Sekhukhune are five points clear of third-placed Durban City, who showed character as they came from a goal down to secure a 3-1 home victory over Magesi FC, and Dikwena Tsa Meetse have since slipped down to the 15th spot, which is the relegation playoff spot.
Durban City's provincial rivals, Golden Arrows, made it two wins in a row when they thrashed a hapless Orbit College side 3-0 in eThekwini, with in-form striker Sere Junior Dion, Siyanda Ndlovu, and Jerome Karelse all scoring on the day.
The action continued on Sunday as coach Lehlohonolo Seema breathed a sigh of relief after Siwelele FC ended their seven-match winless run after edging out Marumo Gallants 1-0 in the Bloemfontein Derby courtesy of Tebogo Potsane's first-half goal.
In East London, it was a battle between two struggling teams as Chippa United and Stellenbosch FC drew 0-0, and the result left them placed 16th and 14th respectively in the standings.
