Next generation of stars assemble for latest SA U19 women’s training camp

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced the third phase of the SA Under-19 Women’s national training programme, with 39 of the country’s most promising youngsters invited to the high-performance camp from 16 - 19 July at the CSA Centre of Excellence in Tshwane.

In preparation for the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2027, this camp marks a shift from broader talent identification to targeted development. Following successful instalments earlier this year, the group has now been narrowed down to 39 players, based on performance and growth potential.

The squad includes Proteas Women-capped wicketkeeper batter Karabo Meso, alongside Ashleigh van Wyk, Mieke van Voorst, and Diedre van Rensburg. Also among the group are Chanel Venter and Jae-Leigh Filander, all of whom were part of the SA Under-19 Women’s side that reached the final of the World Cup in Malaysia in January.

Reflecting on the selection process, player development, and goals for the upcoming camp, SA Under-19 Women’s head coach Dinesha Devnarain commented, "We looked for raw talent, whether that’s from a strength and conditioning point of view, whether they are really quick, or they have great attributes of a spinner. 

"Players who are looking to take the game forward but can also strike, rotate, and have good technique. We went along those lines to see how we can add value to this pipeline.

"After we held the first two camps, the Talent Acceleration Programme (TAP) leads got into serious work with regards to the skills we've identified, which will be crucial for the subcontinent. From all aspects, batting, bowling, fielding, and also from a mental point of view."

"In the SA Under-19 Women, we have a culture document that we strive ourselves on, maintaining those types of standards. I’m hoping we get a chance during these four days to present that document so the players are well aware of what’s expected at the South African Under-19 level."

"Hopefully, what we see after this camp is the team taking shape into what the balance of the squad will look like heading into the World Cup,” the coach concluded.
