The 2025 Gary and Vivienne Player Invitational at Sun City will be the largest celebration in the history of this iconic tournament as it coincides with Gary Player’s 90th birthday and a tribute to South Africa’s greatest sportsman, golf’s global ambassador, and the life of a man dedicated to using his talents to inspire hope and compassion in society.

The tournament, to be played at both the Gary Player Country Club and Lost City Golf Course from 1-2 November 2025, will feature an array of Sunshine Tour professionals, sports stars, celebrities and business icons who will gather to help raise funds for the work of the Gary & Vivienne Player Foundation South Africa (GVPF SA) and its primary beneficiary, the Blair Atholl Pre-Primary School on the outskirts of Johannesburg.

It will be the culmination of a celebration that has already seen international sports stars and celebrities heeding Player’s call for “90 Acts of Kindness” in a global show of compassion, as well as his challenge to the youth to “Become a Future Player” and make an impact in their own communities.

“Everybody has the ability to be kind. No act is too small. Together, let’s make kindness our legacy. Together, we will make a difference in the lives of many through the Gary & Vivienne Player Foundation, supporting the children of the Blair Atholl Pre-Primary School and other life-changing initiatives,” said Player.

Birthday wishes have already started pouring in from around the world in the build-up to this year’s tournament and Player’s 90th birthday on 1 November.

Professional golfer Sergio Garcia said, “Happy 90th birthday, Gary. You look like a young stallion”.

Justin Rose added, “Gary, I can’t believe you’re turning 90. You’ve been defying odds your whole career – taking it to Jack and Arnold from little known South Africa back in the day, to your incredible longevity and work ethic. But for me, the most impressive thing about you is the way you continue to laugh. That makes you an example to us all”.

Legendary golfer Annika Sorenstam said in her tribute, “Gary, I think you’re an incredible inspiration to many. Happy Birthday, and I know you can do many more”.

This year’s Gary & Vivienne Player Invitational will indeed be a stellar showcase of Player’s own unwavering belief in the spirit of “Ubuntu” upon the stage of two of his most iconic golf courses at Sun City.
