Betway SA20 Final & Dricus-Strickland UFC title rematch headline SuperSport’s iiincredible BIG WEEKEND of sport
Betway SA20 final, Sundowns v Pirates, Dricus du Plessis v Sean Strickland, DHL Stormers v Vodacom Bulls: this is the super weekend!
06 February 2025 - From the Betway SA20 final to monstrous clashes locally and abroad in football and rugby, let alone the gladiatorial tussles in the UFC, SuperSport is gearing up for an iiincredible weekend of live sports action.
The Betway SA20 has lit up the South African skies with stars that have shone both on and off the field. The culmination of the exhilarating third season of this spectacle comes to an end at DP World Wanderers Stadium on Saturday, 08 February 2025, in what promises to be an unforgettable Summer of Cricket. The final will feature an hour build-up starting at 16:00 on SuperSport Cricket (DStv channel 212) and a fun digital build-up on SuperSport’s YouTube channel.
SuperSport has made available for open viewing - subscription free - the first innings of the Betway SA20 Final to the South African public to stream live on DStv Stream (stream only).
Using the OTT-only channel 243 on DStv Stream (SuperSport Play), avid cricket fans and general South Africans can stream the exciting finish to season three (first innings only).
Amid the euphoria brought about by cricket, the recent Soweto Derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizers Chiefs once again delivered a moment for the ages. Patrick Maswangayi’s last-minute Panenka was befitting of the auspicious event and set the stage up beautifully for the Buccaneers’ top-of-the-table clash with log leaders and reigning champions, Mamelodi Sundowns.
The humdinger of a Betway Premiership fixture at Loftus Versveld is the perfect foil for the Betway SA20 final taking place on the same day at 15:30 on SuperSport PSL (202). Billed by many as a title decider, the heavyweight clash between South Africa’s premier football clubs is a final in all but name and Your World of Champions is poised to give football fans the ultimate viewing experience.
Beyond the African shores, LaLiga also serves up a storm this mega sporting weekend as all eyes will be on the Santiago Bernabeu as the famed football cathedral hosts the city’s greatest devotion to the football Gods – the Madrid Derby. With Diego Simeone’s Athletico Madrid outfit one point away from their archrivals, bragging rights would be a cherry top but a chance to take pole position in the race is the main aim at stake.
The stakes will be equally as high across the English Channel as the second round of fixtures in this year’s Six Nations tournament sees England, fresh off a narrow defeat to Ireland in their opening fixture, host France at 18:45. The rampant French will be looking to follow up their 43-0 thumping of Wales with another major British sculp.
Local rugby fans turn their attention to Cape Town where the DHL Stormers host the Vodacom Bulls at DHL Stadium at 14:00 on SuperSport Rugby (211). The Western Cape outfit will be looking to get their Vodacom United Rugby Championship campaign back on track after a disappointing loss against Leinster at the end of January, while Pretoria’s pride will be looking to make it back-to-back away victories after their triumph against the Emirates Lions last time out.
Tussles among juggernauts is the theme this weekend, whether it’s between clubs and franchises or one-on-one combat. Where others seek to land metaphorical blows to opponents, the top-tier sportsmen and women will take it to literal proportions at UFC 312.
DStv Stream is keeping you connected for a 𝐁𝐈𝐆 weekend!
South African interest is peaked by the middleweight championship bout between reigning champion Dricus du Plessis’ and American Sean Strickland. The rematch will see both mixed martial arts fighters looking to prove a point.
For Du Plessis, it’s an opportunity to silence doubters who labelled his victory fortuitous, while Strickland yearns to reclaim a title he firmly believes is his. The fight will be live at 05:00 on SuperSport Variety 3 (208), making it available live to DStv Compact customers.
Meanwhile the co-main event pits Chinese veteran fighter and reigning champion Zhang Weili against undefeated American Tatiana Suarez in the women’s strawweight division.
