Magesi midfielder Tholang Masegela took only five matches to earn four cautions and earn the unwanted distinction of being the first player to be suspended in the Premier Soccer League for an accumulation of yellow cards.

It meant the 27-year-old missed Sunday’s 3-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns but is now available for the next game, at home to Siwelele in Seshego on Saturday.

FOUR CAUTIONS MEANS AN AUTOMATIC ONE-MATCH BAN

There are several players with three cautions going into the midweek matches in Betway Premiership and now also risking suspension, namely Thato Khiba (Stellenbosch), Surprise Manthosi and Rodney Maphangule (Polokwane City), Ben Motshwari (AmaZulu) and Neo Rapoo (Siwelele).

AmaZulu host Stellenbosch in KwaMashu on Wednesday while Polokwane City host Lamontville Golden Arrows. Siwelele play at Durban City on Tuesday.

The first player suspended this season was Edgar Manaka, sent off playing for Marumo Gallants at Richards Bay on the opening day of the league campaign on August 8.

A SENDING OFF IS AN AUTOMATIC TWO-MATCH BAN

There have since been red cards for Samuel Darpoh and Lehlohonolo Mtshali (Magesi), Riaan Hanamub (AmaZulu), Lentswe Motaung (TS Galaxy) and Siviwe Nkwali (Stellenbosch).

Hanamub cannot play against Stellenbosch on Wednesday while Motaung starts his two match suspension when Galaxy play at Richards Bay on Wednesday.

The first yellow card of the new season came in the opening MTN8 quarterfinal tie when Orlando Pirates beat Polokwane City on August 2 and went to Relebogile Mofokeng.

The first yellow card in the Betway Premiership came at the same time in different matches for Realeboga Potsana of newcomers Orbit College and Sergio Kammies from Chippa United.
