Marumo Gallants fought hard to pull one back and draw 1-1 with SuperSport United in the Betway Premiership at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

It was a must-win match for SSU, who remained in 15th position after the encounter.

SuperSport United were the better team in the first half, creating a number of chances. Siviwe Magidigidi almost opened the scoring in the 15th minute after receiving a cross from Nyiko Mobbie, but it was saved by Daniel Akpeyi.

Soon after, Matsantsantsa keeper Ricardo Goss had to make a save of his own at the other end in the 22nd minute. The hard work paid off at the stroke of halftime, as Bradley Grobler found the back of the net in the 45th minute after being assisted by Lebohang Maboe.

Marumo Gallants picked themselves up in the second half and piled on the pressure. They were rewarded in the 61st minute when Matome Mathiane equalised for the home team. It was also his first goal for the club.

Siwelele sa Marumo also picked up in terms of possession as they saw more of the ball towards the last 20 minutes of play. SuperSport, who were once confident, began to lack belief and seemed deflated after conceding.

The away team began to fight back even harder as the match neared its end, but it was not enough as Gallants held on to take home a point in a crucial match for survival in the Betway Premiership.
