June is here and there is no LaLiga EA Sports action right now, but there were still several interesting storylines and headlines to follow in the world of Spanish football this past week, especially in the LaLiga Hypermotion promotion playoffs. All of that and more is outlined below.
Raphinha is the LaLiga EA Sports Player of the Season
FC Barcelona forward Raphinha learned this past week that he has been named as the Player of the Season for the 2024/25 LaLiga EA Sports campaign. The Brazilian scored 18 goals and provided 11 assists as Barça won the league title, so was one of the key driving forces behind the Catalan club’s championship.
Hansi Flick takes the Coach of the Season prize
The LaLiga EA Sports Coach of the Season prize also went to a key figure in FC Barcelona’s title win, in the form of Hansi Flick. The German’s first season in charge of Los Azulgranas could hardly have gone better, as he guided the team to the league title as well as the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup.
The other end-of-season award winners are announced
There were other LaLiga EA Sports end-of-season awards too, such as Lamine Yamal being crowned the Best U-23 Player of the Season. Meanwhile, Luka Sučić won the Goal of the Season prize, for the Real Sociedad man’s strike against Atlético de Madrid. And, Jan Oblak added the Save of the Season honour to his Zamora Trophy, for a parry in that same Real Sociedad v Atlético de Madrid game.
Real Oviedo take a lead back to Asturias
The LaLiga Hypermotion playoffs began this past week, with Real Oviedo taking a big step towards the final in one of them. The Asturian side won 2-1 away at UD Almería in the first leg of the semifinals, and will now look to finish the job on Wednesday night.
It’s even between CD Mirandés and Real Racing Club
In the other LaLiga Hypermotion promotion playoff semifinal, CD Mirandés and Real Racing Club played out a thrilling 3-3 draw. With the team from Santander equalising in the 98th minute of the game, they’ll now enter Thursday’s second leg with extra confidence.
Toni Muñoz returns to Getafe CF as director of football
Getafe CF announced this past week that Toni Muñoz will become the club’s new director of football. He held the same role with Los Azulones between 2008 and 2017, so will feel very much at home back at the Coliseum.
Sevilla FC name Antonio Cordón as their new director of football
Sevilla FC also announced a new director of football this past week, in their case hiring Antonio Cordón, who was most recently at Olympiacos. Cordón has a brilliant reputation in the field and boasts a wealth of experience, and was, in fact, the sporting director at Real Betis in the past.
Thrills in the Nations League final four
The Uefa Nations League final four took place this past week and a Spain squad packed with LaLiga EA Sports stars ultimately finished second. After a thrilling 5-4 victory over France in the semifinals, La Roja drew 2-2 with Portugal in the final and ultimately lost on penalties.
With the likes of Lamine Yamal, Mikel Oyarzabal, Nico Williams and company all getting on the scoresheet over the two games, football fans were treated to a spectacular week of action.
LaLiga EA Sports returns on the weekend of 17 August
The calendar for the 2025/26 season of LaLiga EA Sports was announced this past week, with the action in Spanish football’s top division commencing on the weekend of 17August 2025 and running until the weekend of 24 May 2026.
The dates for LaLiga Hypermotion are set too
The start and end dates for the 2025/26 campaign in LaLiga Hypermotion, Spain’s second tier, were also revealed this past week. It too will kick off on the weekend of 17 August 2025, with the regular season running up until the weekend of 31 May 2026. Then, the promotion playoffs will take place between 7 June and 21 June 2026.
