Sekhukhune boost top-three hopes with CT City win
Sekhukhune United boosted their Betway Premiership top-three ambitions when they claimed a 2-1 win over Cape Town City at the DHL Stadium on Sunday evening.
The win elevated Babina Noko to the third spot in the standings as they completed a league double over City.
Coach Eric Tinkler's side will be looking to consolidate their top-three spot when they host Polokwane City on 19 April.
The Citizens, on the other hand, remained 14th in the standings after registering their 13th league defeat of the season.
Coach Diogo Peral will be determined to ensure that City return to winning ways when they face Richards Bay away on 18 April.
Babina Noko got off to a good start with Vuyo Letlapa looking lively down the left flank and the 21-year-old provided the assist when Samkelo Sihlali netted his maiden professional goal in the 27th minute to make it 1-0 to Sekhukhune.
Letlapa grabbed his second assist of the match in the 42 minute and this time, the left-back set up Chibuike Ohizu, who scored his fourth league goal of the season, and Sekhukhune were leading 2-0 during the halftime break.
Babina Noko were dealt a blow just a minute into the second half as their new signing from Royal AM, Khulekani Shezi was sent off after picking up his second yellow card and Sekhukhune were reduced to 10 players.
The Citizens then pulled one back with 23 minutes left on the clock when Jaedin Rhodes set up Kayden Francis, who beat goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner, but Sekhukhune held on to their slender lead, and emerged as 2-1 winners.
