Durban City snapped their three-match winless run in the Betway Premiership in style as they secured a 2-0 victory over Siwelele FC at the Chatsworth Stadium on Tuesday night.

The win elevated City to fourth in the league standings, having collected 11 points from six matches.

The KwaZulu-Natal side will be looking to make it two victories in a row when they face champions Mamelodi Sundowns away on 20 September.

Siwelele, on the other hand, slipped down to the 13th spot after registering their fourth defeat of the season.

Coach Lehlohonolo Seema, who is under pressure, will be determined to ensure that Siwelele overcome Magesi away on 20 September.

A few hours after being announced as Durban City's new signings, Letsie Koapeng and Terrence Mashego were both named in the starting line-up and the former rewarded coach Gavin Hunt's faith in him by breaking the deadlock.

Siwelele failed to clear the lines and Bokang Mokwena quickly set up Koapeng, who made no mistake as he beat goalkeeper Ricardo Goss in the 42nd minute and the score was 1-0 to City at halftime courtesy of the debutant's well-taken goal.

Having netted 12 goals in the Motsepe Foundation Championship for Upington City last season, Mokwena showed that he can also score goals in the Betway Premiership after the restart.

The 24-year-old winger hit the back of the net in the 52nd minute to hand City a 2-0 lead.

With his side trailing, coach Seema decided to introduce attack-minded Ghampani Lungu in the 71st minute as Siwelele looked to at least score twice to salvage a draw.

However, City stood firm at the back and they emerged as 2-0 winners on the night.
