Sekhukhune United came out on top in the latest installment of the Limpopo Derby, following a 2-0 win against Polokwane City in the Betway Premiership at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday night.

While the game produced little talking points, Babina Noko proved to have too much quality throughout the 90 minutes, as goals in either half by Ngoanamello Rammala and Daniel Cardoso were enough for Sekhukhune to bag maximum points in Limpopo.

Following a fast start to the game, both sides produced shots at goal during the first 10 minutes. Firstly, Polokwane City’s Mokibelo Ramabu let off an effort from range in the seventh minute, while Sekhukhune’s Sikhosonke Langa took a chance from outside the area, which was blocked by his opposite number.

Sekhukhune saw most of the ball midway through the first 45 but struggled to make their chances stick. Polokwane City, on the other hand, looked to cause damage during transitional moments.

Babina Noko took the lead in the 36th minute as Rammala added his name to the scoreboard. Following a swift move toward the Polokwane City box, Rammala made no mistake with a well-taken right-footed effort from the center of the goal.

While Rise and Shine battled to make the most of their chances going forward, the game remained at 1-0 in favour of Sekhukhune at the break.

Polokwane City looked lively during the opening exchanges of the second-half, as seen with attempts from Oswin Appollis and Lengelihle Ndlovu.

Rise and Shine continued to showcase their goal scoring intentions en-route to the hour-mark, but were often let down at the final hurdle. Polokwane City piled on the pressure thereafter as Sekhukhune looked to soak up the pressure.

Nevertheless, Sekhukhune doubled their advantage in the 79th minute, with Cardoso making the most of a corner situation. With the ball whipped in, the veteran defender latched onto the ball with a left-footed shot from the right-hand side of the 18-yard-area.

With momentum fully in Sekhukhune’s favour, Eric Tinkler and his charges did enough to see the game out unscathed.
