Magesi coach and former Derry City forward Owen da Gama hailed his team after beating TS Galaxy 2-1 on Sunday for a sixth straight home win in the South African Premiership.

Victory near northern city Polokwane lifted a club promoted to the top flight this season to 10th, six points above bottom club SuperSport United.

The recent expulsion of Royal AM for failing to fulfil fixtures means there will not be automatic relegation from the now 15-club championship.

But the bottom club must go into a double-round mini-league with two second division sides and only the winners secure a Premiership place.

John Mokone put Magesi ahead on 20 minutes, Kamogelo Sebelebele levelled before half-time and Delano Abrahams scored the 54th-minute winner with his second league goal this season.

"We might not have the best quality, but we play as a team," said Da Gama, who took charge of Magesi three months ago when they appeared doomed to finish last.

"In the first 10 minutes, I thought we were a bit poor. Then we started getting into first gear, into second gear, into third gear."

Magesi have four more fixtures and five points will ensure survival in the richest African league.
