Andre Arendse claimed a point in his opening match as SuperSport United interim coach after they played out to a 0-0 draw with Cape Town City at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.

Matsatsantsa remain second from bottom in the Betway Premiership, still two points adrift of safety and the Citizens, who saw their winless streak extend to double figures in Diogo Peral's first game in charge.

Both teams were desperate for a win, with SuperSport only picking up one point from their last three outings and City having failed to record a victory in nine games.

There weren't many clear-cut chances in Polokwane though, despite plenty of shots being attempted.

Ricardo Goss made a comfortable save from Haashim Domingo on 18 minutes after Jaedin Rhodes had found him with a square pass on the edge of the box.

Lebohang Maboe wasn't able to hit the target on 22 minutes following good work from Siphesihle Ndlovu to win back possession for the hosts to launch an attack.

The visitors finished the first half on the front foot as the pushed for the opening goal, but the score remained deadlocked at 0-0 going into the break.

Matsatsantsa had more joy in the second half, although they didn't test Darren Keet nearly enough, with the goalkeeper requiring to make just two saves from seven attempts at his goal.

The Tshwane outfit were presented with a good opportunity on 55 minutes after they broke from deep, only for Keet to pull off a brilliant save to deny Maboe.

However, there wasn't much more goalmouth action to speak of even though the hosts saw plenty of the ball in the opposition box and both coaches had to settle for a point in their first match at the helm.
