John Maduka maintained his unbeaten start at the helm of Magesi after they came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against Stellenbosch at the Seshego Stadium on Wednesday.

Maduka's side held Polokwane City to a goalless stalemate in their Betway Premiership opener at the weekend and they claimed their second point of the new campaign to move up to 10th place.

The Maroons picked up their first point after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, taking them above TS Galaxy, Richards Bay and Orlando Pirates in 13th position.

The hosts created the majority of the chances in the first half and they made a bright start as Sage Stephens was called into action on 10 minutes to keep the score level with a fine save.

But it was Steve Barker's side who drew first blood in the 19th minute when Andre de Jong played in Langelihle Phili on the left and the winger lashed his shot into the far corner of the net from a tight angle.

Dikwena tsa Meetse hit back just eight minutes later, however, as Kgomotso Mosadi got on the end of Mcedi Vandala's cross to head home the equaliser.

Stephens was required to make two further saves before halftime to ensure that the score remained 1-1 at the break.

Magesi came out of the blocks flying in the second half as they tried their luck from range on three occasions early on, with Stephens pulling off another save before the hour mark.

Muzomuhle Khanyi looked to make an impact off the bench when he forced a good save out of Elvis Chipezeze on 71 minutes in a rare foray upfront for the Cape Winelands outfit.

The team from Limpopo pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but they failed to hit the target with any of their attempts and had to settle for a share of the spoils.
