Chiefs coach bemoans lack of goals

Kaizer Chiefs coach Khalid Ben Youssef again bemoaned missed chances as Kaizer Chiefs failed to take the opportunity to climb up the Betway Premiership standings and remained in fifth spot after a goalless draw at Chippa United on Wednesday.
Chiefs did dominate the encounter but came up against a feisty home side at the Nelson Mandela Stadium, whose performance belied their place at the bottom of the standings.

“First, I have to say, congratulations to the players for the performance. I think after the (African Confederation) Cup game just four days ago, we were playing a first game in the league after a long time,” he said.
“Like we expected, it was a tough game physically. For the players to keep our structure, to continue to work the same we did before was excellent. We created a lot of opportunities, better in the second half. Chippa challenged us physically. So we didn't play well in the first half but in the second half, we were controlling the game and creating a lot of opportunities to score.”
Chiefs, however, have only scored 13 goals in 12 league games this season. There are eight teams who have scored more goals in the Betway Premiership this season.
“But we still have this problem from the beginning of the season, where we create a lot of opportunities, but we are unlucky to score,” Ben Youssef added.
“And you know, in football, if you don't score, you risk conceding. Defensively, we kept a clean sheet but also, I have to say congratulations to Chippa. They also played very well. They were fighting for the points. For us, we have now to continue and to think about the next game against TS Galaxy. We'll continue to work, to correct our mistakes.”
Chiefs play away at Mbombela Stadium against Galaxy on Sunday in the last domestic game of 2025.
