SuperSport chase rebound win against in-form AmaZulu

SuperSport United will go in search of a rebound win when they welcome an in-form AmaZulu to the Lucas Moripe Stadium for a Betway Premiership clash on the evening of Wednesday, 5 March 2025.
Kick-off is at 7.30pm CAT.
MATCH BACKGROUND
SuperSport suffered a ninth loss in their league campaign when they were beaten 1-0 by strugglers Magesi FC on Saturday – a setback in their hopes of claiming a top-eight finish come the end of the season.
Matsatsantsa, who have managed just one win from their last eight completed league games, need to take a three-point haul this midweek to try and rise from their current 12th place on the log (just three points above the relegation playoff zone).
AmaZulu, meanwhile, defeated Cape Town City 2-0 on Sunday to claim a second successive league win, as well as three victories from their last four league outings.
After a slow start to the campaign, AmaZulu have come right under coach Arthur Zwane (who had Vusumuzi Vilakazi as a co-coach for several months, before the latter’s recent departure) and find themselves in fifth place on the log. Pushing on to secure a top-eight finish in the remaining third of the season will be the Durban side’s ambition.
WHAT THE TEAMS ARE SAYING
SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt on the need to keep their focus on the "here and now":
“I always say it is not all about winning in the end, it is about winning next week. If you can win the next game, that's the most important game, try to win it. But we don't look at what happened, we have to look at the future and try to get young players in.”
AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane on how the team has turned their fortunes around:
“We worked on their [the players’] minds to say, ‘forget about the past.’ Right now, we’re not even thinking about the [29] points that we have accumulated, we are thinking about the next three points that can make a difference for us.”
KEY PLAYERS
SuperSport United: Aphiwe Baliti
This campaign may have been disappointing for SuperSport United thus far, but a definite silver lining has been the form of young left-back Baliti. The 23-year-old has been excellent both in defence and getting forward, with his passing, crossing and set-piece delivery on the left foot all catching the eye.
AmaZulu: Nkosikhona Radebe
Signed from TS Galaxy in the January transfer window, Radebe is now making a major impact for AmaZulu, having scored a goal in each of their last two wins over Magesi FC and Cape Town City. The 24-year-old right wingback will look to continue his form when Usuthu head to Tshwane in midweek.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
In head-to-head stats, SuperSport and AmaZulu have met in 55 league matches since 1990. Matsatsantsa have claimed 24 wins compared to 18 for Usuthu, while 13 games have been drawn.
When the teams met earlier this season, at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in early February, AmaZulu claimed a 2-1 home win. The Durban side led through Rowan Human, only to be pegged back by Siphesihle Ndlovu, before scoring a late winner through Ben Motshwari.
