With just a few weeks of the Spanish football season remaining, here comes a look at the situation in the title race.

There are just seven rounds remaining in the 2024/25 LaLiga EA Sports season, and it’s still a mystery as to who’ll win the title. FC Barcelona currently sit top, but they still have work to do if they want to lift the trophy.

This is the most competitive LaLiga in the last four years, with only four points separating the leader from the second-placed team and seven points between the leader and the third-placed team with seven rounds to go.

Here, we take a look at the situation of the different teams involved in this year’s title race, one of the most exciting in all of Europe.

FC BARCELONA (1ST, 70 POINTS)

In his first season in Spanish football, Hansi Flick has done an excellent job and his FC Barcelona team are playing some fantastic football at the same time as they’re scooping up points week after week. Los Azulgranas have been top of the table for most of the season, for all but 10 matchdays, and currently hold a four-point lead over their direct rivals Real Madrid.

With one ElClasico still on the schedule, coming in Matchday 35, the situation at the top could still change, but Barça are in a comfortable position for now, especially after their hard-fought 1-0 win away at CD Leganés last matchday.

Remaining fixtures: RC Celta (H), RCD Mallorca (H), Real Valladolid (A), Real Madrid (H), RCD Espanyol (A), Villarreal CF (H), Athletic Club (A)

REAL MADRID (2ND, 66 POINTS)

Real Madrid are the defending champions and know what it takes to win silverware, but they haven’t actually managed to retain the LaLiga EA Sports championship since they did so in 2006/07 and 2007/08. Currently in second, the wait for back-to-back titles seems destined to continue.

Having scored fewer goals than Barça, and having conceded more goals too, Los Blancos’ goal difference is a lot worse. Their home loss to Valencia CF in Matchday 30 means they now trail their rivals by four points, but they did recover with a 1-0 win at Deportivo Alavés in Matchday 31.

Remaining fixtures: Athletic Club (H), Getafe CF (A), RC Celta (H), FC Barcelona (A), RCD Mallorca (H), Sevilla FC (A), Real Sociedad (H)

ATLÉTICO DE MADRID (3RD, 63 POINTS)

At the halfway stage of this season, it was Atlético de Madrid who sat top, making them winter champions. Since then, though, their form has fallen off and they’ve won just five out of 12 matches in the second half of this league season.

That’s why they’ve fallen significantly behind FC Barcelona, and they’ve lost the head-to-head tiebreaker against the Catalans as well. But, Diego Simeone’s side have put together winning runs before and can’t be ruled out yet.

Remaining fixtures: UD Las Palmas (A), Rayo Vallecano (H), Deportivo Alavés (A), Real Sociedad (H), CA Osasuna (A), Real Betis (H), Girona FC (A)
