SuperSport, AmaZulu play out stalemate
SuperSport United and AmaZulu FC played out a 0-0 stalemate in their Betway Premiership match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Both Matsatsantsa and Usuthu were unable to produce the necessary quality in attack as they settled for a share of the spoils which leaves them in 12th and sixth place respectively.
AmaZulu made the early running in the game and threatened in the opening minutes via Rowan Human and Bongani Zungu.
SuperSport began to find their footing around the midway point of the first half, with their first notable effort coming from Lebohang Maboe, who drew a fine save from Veli Mothwa.
The hosts created several more chances through the remainder of the first half, but they either failed to hit the target or saw their efforts turned away by Mothwa to leave the game locked at 0-0 at the interval.
Usuthu opted for a double change at the start of the second half, as Elmo Kambindu and Ben Motshwari were introduced off the bench and they were able to play higher up the pitch and prevent United from enjoying the kind of dominance they had at the back end of the first 45 minutes.
Matsatsantsa turned to the likes of substitutes Enoch Quaicoe and Bradley Grobler to try and turn the game in their favour, but ultimately the two sides cancelled each other out and a draw was a fair reflection of the game’s balance.
SuperSport will next be in action in the Nedbank Cup, hosting Orlando Pirates in a quarterfinal clash this weekend, while AmaZulu’s next assignment is a Premiership match away to log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on 11 March.
