Gujarat Titans prolific top-three batsmen once again set up a daunting total of 224-6 in their IPL match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Mahendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday. It was more than enough to secure a dominant 38-run victory.

Seamer Prasidh Krishna’s brilliant return of 2-19 in four overs was instrumental in securing victory once the threat of prolific opener Abishek Sharma (74 from 41 balls) had been snuffed out by veteran Ishant Sharma.

Gerald Coetzee’s first appearance of the tournament delivered the wicket of Ishan Kishan (13), caught at deep square leg, and the Proteas paceman was entrusted with two overs at the end of the innings to finish with tidy figures of 4-0-36-1.

Earlier, Sai Sudharsan smashed a brilliant 48 from just 23 balls (9x4) in an opening stand of 87 with captain Shubman Gill who compiled a classy 76 from 38 balls (10x4, 2x6) and former England captain Jos Buttler built perfectly on the platform with a rasping 64 from 37 balls with another three fours and four sixes.

At 206-2 and 218-3 the Titans might have hoped for another dozen runs but four wickets fell in the final eight balls although Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia managed to hit a six apiece in their identical innings of – six.

Jaydev Unadkat did much to limit the damage in the final overs with 3-35 but the experienced Mohammad Shami endured an unusually difficult evening with figures of 3-0-48-0 .

The result moved the in-form Titans back to the top of the log alongside the Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru although MI have played 11 games to the 10 of GT and RCB.

SRH became the third team to be eliminated from playoff contention with just three wins and seven losses from their seven games.
