Kruger PSL bound, Citizens surge on

In viral news from the Motsepe Foundation Championship this weekend, Kruger United officially secured automatic promotion to the PSL, while Cape Town City boosted their chances of finishing in a Promotion play-off spot.

Kruger United’s position at the top was set in stone following a dominant 3-1 win over the relegation-threatened Black Leopards on Saturday afternoon.

The Motsepe Foundation Championship winners earned promotion to South Africa’s top flight with two games to spare, taking their tally to 58 points following a run of six consecutive victories.

In addition to their dominance, Kruger holds an eight-point lead over their nearest competitors Milford FC, who secured a 2-1 win over The Bees on Saturday.

Milford, currently second with 50 points, will now hope to finish in a Promotion play-off spot as they sit two points ahead of third-placed Cape Town City.

The Citizens returned to winning ways this weekend after a three-match winless streak, recording a 4-0 win over Gomora United on Sunday.

Now back in the hunt for a play-off position, City ended this weekend level on 48 points with fourth-positioned Hungry Lions, who were left frustrated after a 0-0 draw with Upington City on Saturday.

At the bottom of the table, 15th placed Leopards now find themselves in real danger of relegation as they sit six points away from safety, while 14th placed Midlands Wanderers have a game in hand.
