Cape Town Spurs will be targeting a win when they go up against SuperSport United in the Round of 16 of the Nedbank Cup at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Kick-off is at 7pm CAT (SA, GMT+2)
CURRENT FORM
SuperSport United won their Round of 32 clash in the competition against Magesi 2-0 and will be looking to replicate the same result against a struggling Cape Town Spurs side.
The team hasn’t had the best results in the league, and are currently under a winless run in the Betway Premiership, their last result being a hard fought 1-1 draw against Sekhukhune United.
As for Spurs, the Cape Town outfit are in a dangerous position in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, in 15th at the relegation zone.
Their previous league fixture in the National First Division was a 3-0 loss against Black Leopards, however they triumphed in the Nedbank Cup in the previous round, winning 3-1 against Venda Football Club.
WHAT WAS SAID
SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt recently spoke about why the team signed former Kaizer Chiefs attacker Christian Saile to the club.
In his debut for SSU, Saile scored on his debut in the Round of 32 of the Nedbank Cup in the win against Magesi.
We needed some more pace up front,” said Hunt.
“So he will give us that, and people think when a player leaves, you want to get this player on that player…we have to take what we can get.
“He will add value with pace, and that’s what we are looking for in the long run in that perspective, so he’s different from what we had,” he added.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Samir Nurkovic, SuperSport United — The Serbian striker scored his first goal for Matsantsantsa in the draw against Sekhukhune United and will be eager to increase his tally by scoring in the Nedbank Cup as he continues reviving his career in South African football.
Asanele Velebayi, Cape Town Spurs — The Urban Warriors captain is dangerous on the wing with defense penetrating crosses and will be hoping to deliver that same threat at the MFC side take on the Betway Premiership team.
