Jacks, Rickelton steer Mumbai Indians to victory over Sunrisers
Will Jacks claimed two vital wickets and top-scored with 36 to guide the Mumbai Indians to a four-wicket victory with 11 balls to spare in their IPL match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.
Needing just 163 for victory the home side were largely in control of the run-chase despite losing wickets at inopportune times but finished with a (stuttering) flourish on 166-6 in just 18.1 overs for a comfortable victory in reply to the SRH total of 162-5.
Ryan Rickelton crafted 31 from 23 balls before driving seamer Harshal Patel to extra cover after Impact Player Rohit Sharma (26 from 16 balls) had done likewise against Sunrisers skipper Pat Cummins.
Jacks’s measured innings of 36 from 26 balls (3x4, 2x6) ended with a miscued drive against a Cummins slower ball just two overs after Suryakumar Yadav (26 from 15) had been dismissed in identical fashion leaving Cummins with a fine, but futile analysis of 4-0-26-3.

MI captain, Hardik Pandya, all but finished the game with a boisterous 21 from just nine balls (3x4, 1x6) but Sri Lankan pacer, Eshan Malinga, removed him and Naman Dhir with just one run to win to delay the inevitable.
MAROONED IN NINTH SPOT
Earlier, desperate for a victory to turn their faltering season around, the Sunrisers exercised such caution that the normally free-flowing Travis Head scored his 28 from 29 balls with just three fours while opening partner, Abhishek Sharma, managed 40 from 28 (7x4) as he dominated a first wicket stand of 59 in 7.3 overs.
But Abhishek slapped a slower-ball bouncer from MI captain Hardik Pandya to deep cover and English offspinner Will Jacks (3-0-14-2) followed up with two quick wickets as Ishan Kishan (2) was stumped by Ryan Rickelton and Head slapped a drive to long off.
Heinrich Klaasen once again struggled to get going until the 18th over when he blasted two fours and two sixes – one over extra cover - off seamer Deepak Chahar to elevate the total from ‘modest’ to competitive but the brilliant Jasprit Bumrah (4-0-21-1) bowled him at the start of the 19th for 37 from 28 balls with three fours and two sixes.
Aniket Verma (18* from 8 balls) heaved a brace of legside sixes and captain Pat Cummins (8* from four balls) added another to push the total to 162-5.
But it was far from sufficient.
Mumbai remain in seventh place on the log with three wins and six points from their seven matches while SRH are marooned in ninth place with just four points from seven matches, barely ahead of the Chennai Super Kings on net run-rate.
