Chippa United and Kaizer Chiefs battled to a goalless stalemate in a Betway Premiership clash at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday evening.

Early pressure from Chippa United tested the Kaizer Chiefs defence, but the opening 10 minutes saw most of the action confined to midfield as both sides probed for openings.

A defensive mix-up between Edmilson Dove and Chiefs keeper Bruce Bvuma nearly gifted Chippa the lead early on, following a Justice Chabalala effort. Xolani Sithole and Sergio Kammies combined menacingly towards the end of the first half, but AmaKhosi held firm.

Wandile Duba also had two attempts, but neither troubled the scoreboard. The teams went into the break deadlocked at 0-0.

The second half saw Chippa continue to press. Bvuma produced a crucial save to deny Giovanni Philander in the 64th minute, with the resulting corner adding to Chippa's growing set-piece count.

Kaizer Chiefs responded with a Pule Mmodi solo effort in the 70th minute, but Chilli Boys keeper Stanley Nwabali was equal to the task. Kammies threatened again in the 84th minute, only to be thwarted by a vigilant Bvuma.

The match ultimately ended in a goalless draw, with both sides earning a point in their respective pursuits of a top-eight finish.
