Sekhukhune look to keep up strong run; Chiefs aim to bounce back

A full midweek slate of Betway Premiership matches will see surprise leaders Sekhukhune United looking to continue their strong run, while Kaizer Chiefs will aim to bounce back from successive defeats.
The action opens on Tuesday evening at the Free State Stadium, where struggling Siwelele FC will look to claim the scalp of Orlando Pirates, who are fresh from a convincing 3-0 away win over Lioli FC (Lesotho) which has seen them put one foot into the next round of the CAF Champions League preliminaries.
By contrast, Kaizer Chiefs come into their match against Marumo Gallants late on Wednesday afternoon at FNB Stadium looking to avoid a third successive loss across all competitions. The Amakhosi suffered their first Premiership ‘L’ last weekend against leaders Sekhukhune United, and then had a narrow 1-0 defeat to Angola’s Kabuscorp in Luanda on Saturday in the preliminaries for the CAF Confederation Cup.

All this comes in the midst of a messy parting with coach Nasreddine Nabi, who had overseen an otherwise strong start to the season. A re-affirmation of Chiefs’ hunger to compete for top honours is necessary, and a victory over Gallants (who have gone five games without a win) is a must for the men in gold and black.
Chiefs’ match is one of seven across a busy public holiday Wednesday, starting out at the King Zwelithini Stadium where Golden Arrows will play host to Mamelodi Sundowns. The Brazilians could go top of the log with a win in the early kick-off, and will look to build on their 3-1 win over Durban City from this past weekend.
Sekhukhune will then have the chance to respond in the evening when they welcome Chippa United to the Peter Mokaba Stadium. Babina Noko continued their brilliant start to the campaign – and racked up a third successive win – when Bradley Grobler scored an injury-time goal to edge Arrows on Saturday.

Coach Eric Tinkler continues to play down his team’s excellence thus far in 2025/26: “I think it is very important for us to remain grounded and not to allow our recent success to go to our heads - both as players and technical staff. We have worked very hard to get to where we are, but that work must now continue.”
Wednesday evening also features Orbit College hosting Polokwane City at Olympia Park in Rustenburg; Richards Bay will seek a first win at the Umhlathuze Sports Complex when they host Magesi FC; Stellenbosch FC will be desperate to break their lean run with a win over Durban City at the Danie Craven Stadium; and AmaZulu FC head to the Mbombela Stadium for a clash with TS Galaxy.
