Chippa thump Magesi in stop start encounter
In a match that spanned over two days, Chippa United were on the end of an efficient 4-1 Victory over Magesi FC in their latest Betway Premiership encounter at the Seshego Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
While the game was originally scheduled to take place on Tuesday evening at 7:30pm, two floodlight failures prompted the match commissioner to postpone the tie to the following day. Nevertheless, a brace by Mcedi Kwabiya, including strikes by Craig Martin and Suen Nldovu were enough for the Eastern Cape side to bag maximum points in the Limpopo sunshine.
After the match was delayed for over 30 minutes due to a power outage (on Tuesday evening), the game restarted with a bang with both teams getting on the scoresheet inside the first five minutes. With Magesi swiftly making their way into the Chippa area, Vandala opened the scoring with a well taken right-footed effort from the centre of the area with three minutes on the clock.
The Chilli Boys then responded just two minutes later, as Kwayiba added his name to the scoresheet with a left-footed strike inside the 18-yard-area.
In what was a frantic restart to the encounter, Magesi were all over the Gqeberha-outfit during the first quarter and actively searched for goal scoring opportunities going forward.
However, the game was once again brought to a halt 20 minutes before the break after another floodlight failure, which forced the match commissioner to suspend the tie all together.
AFTER THE RESTART – WEDNESDAY (12:00pm)
The Chilli Boys immediately went on the attack as the match resumed at the Seshego Stadium on Wednesday and created numerous scoring opportunities in the process. With Martin finding himself in a favourable position inside the area, the speedy attacker gave his side the lead with a right-footed shot in from the middle of the goal in the 25th minute.
Chippa increased their advantage six minutes later via a well-taken header from Ndlovu on the edge of the six-yard area, as the away side showcased their attacking thrust from a corner situation.
Magesi battled to get into the game at the beginning of the new half and created little scoring chances as a result. Also, in an attempt to change the complexion of the game, Magesi summoned the likes of Given Mashikinya, John Mokone and Boikanyo Komane before the hour-mark.
Matters went from bad to worse for Magesi after Chippa scored their 4th goal in the 66th minute. In a situation where Magesi’s aerial frailties were exposed yet again, Kwayiba scored his 2nd of the match with a headed effort inside from the centre of the goal.
Nonetheless, Magesi’s inability to cause any attacking threat toward the end of the game played in Chippa’s favour, who saw out the game in confident fashion.
