CURRENT FORM
With pressure mounting heading into the month of February, SuperSport are currently winless in their last five matches in the Betway Premiership.
The Tshwane-based outfit suffered four losses during this period, which included a 3-0 defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns last time out.
SuperSport last tasted victory on the 14 December 2024, where they bagged a narrow 1-0 win against Magesi at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium.
While SuperSport sit in 12th place on the table, Sekhukhune currently occupy fourth position on the log after 15 matches played.
Babina Noko are without a win in their last three league ties, with their most recent result being a 2-1 loss against Orlando Pirates on 5 February.
Ironically, Sekhukhune’s last win came against SuperSport United in what was a convincing 3-0 victory at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on 12 January.
WHAT WAS SAID
With Katlego Otladisa’s expected to be back in action against SuperSport, Sekhukhune coach Lehlohonolo Seema expressed that his side did not miss the attacker against Pirates who was illegible to play given that he is currently on loan at Babina Noko from the Soweto giants.
“We had to plan because we knew that we were not going to have him against Orlando Pirates,” Seema said.
“So, it didn’t unsettle us anywhere. We planned accordingly, so there was no problem, but definitely, he is a part of the team.”
Reflecting on his side’s recent loss to Sundowns, SuperSport United Gavin Hunt recently suggested that he battles to set out a consistent starting XI every week.
“I look at some teams, and they play the same XI every week. If you can tell me my starting XI for Wednesday, I’d be a lucky man. It’s a bit difficult,” Hunt said.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Sekhukhune United: Sipho Mbule – The silky midfielder has been a star turner for Sekhukhune this season and will have added motivation in facing one of his former sides on Sunday.
With trickery and power in his Arsenal, SSU will be forced to pay extra attention to Mbule in the middle of the park.
SuperSport United: Christian Saile – After opening his account for SuperSport against Magesi in the Nedbank Cup last month, Saile is yet to score in the league for his new side.
The industrious forward could well be a tricky customer for Sekhukhune this weekend as he hopes to make a lasting impression under the guidance of Gavin Hunt.
