It looks like Kaizer Chiefs stars are finally aligning in the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) this season. In the past seasons Amakhosi who promoted a lot of players from DDC to first team mid-season and that derailed their chances of challenging for the reserve league title.

However, this season, coach Vela Khumalo and his technical team did not promote any players and that could see them claiming their first Diski Challenge title.

Kaizer Chiefs 4-0 SuperSport United

This past weekend Chiefs brushed aside SuperSport United, thumping them 4-0 at FNB Stadium.

Amakhosi are doing the job for themselves, showing no mercy against the teams that are challenging for the title. Last weekend they defeated Orlando Pirates 1-0, crippling the Buccaneers chances to win the league.

SuperSport were next and Kabelo Nkgwesa, Kamohelo Malefo, Naledi Hlongwane and Thulani Mabaso ensured Amakhosi emerge victorious as they all found the back of the net in the 4-0 drubbing.

With the win, the Amakhosi extended their positive streak to six matches and maintained top spot with 54 points, one ahead of Stellenbosch FC.

This coming weekend, they travel to Stellies in a top of the table clash, where a victory will see them putting one hand on the title.

Orlando Pirates 1-2 AmaZulu

AmaZulu came from a goal down to hand Orlando Pirates a second straight loss in as many matches and left their title ambitions in limbo as they edged them 2-1 at Isak Steyl Stadium.

On form Siphamandla Msezane opened the scoreboard for Pirates but Usuthu never backed down as they fought back to earn maximum points with goals from Asanda Mzobe and Thato Mdluli.

The defeat leaves Pirates in fifth place on the log with 43 points, 11 behind leaders Chiefs.

Marumo Gallants FC 1-7 Mamelodi Sundowns

Thulani Zandamela ended hos goal drought when rampant Mamelodi Sundowns thrashed Marumo Gallants FC 7-1 at Dr Molemela Stadium.

Zandamela who had last scored a goal in November last year was on song as he found the back of the net three times on Saturday.

Ntando Nkosi scored the opening goal for Masandawana, leaving Zandamela to step in and add a brace before Kutlwano Letlhaku joined the party.

Zandamela wasn’t done and netted again to complete his hat-trick. Sipho Ngqakabana and Sechaba Gaseitsiwe did not want to be left out as they also added their names in the scoresheet.

Sekhukhune United 1-3 Stellenbosch FC

Stellenbosch FC came from a goal down to record a resounding 3-1 win over Sekhukhune United, keeping their hopes of clinching their third DDC title alive on Sunday.

A thumping finish in the opening-quarter from Samukele Sihlali got the host up and running, but was short-lived as the Maroons levelled the matters in the 26th minute taking the match to halftime tied on 1-1.

In the second half Sekhukhune scored an own goal giving Stellies a lead before Tauric Gamildien sealed the victory in the 75 minutes.

Stellies remain second in the table with 53 points, one point behind leaders Chiefs.

Cape Town City 8-2 Magesi FC

Cape Town City were in mean mood and breezed past Magesi FC with an emphatic 8-2 triumph and remained in the top-half.

The Citizens have scored the most goals (61) in the Diski Challenge this season. However, their defense has been in shambles as they conceded a whopping 54 goals, six goals less than the 60 conceded by bottom placed Chippa United.

On Sunday they produced a 10-goal thriller against Magesi, with them scoring eight to beat the Limpopo outfit. Jody Ah Shene scored a hat-trick, Dhakier Lee, Heaven Sereetsi, Unam Rode, Nande Wetbooi and an own goal by Magesi.

Chippa United 1-1 Polokwane City

Struggling Chippa United’s two-match losing run were halted after collecting a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Polokwane City.

The Chilli Boys came off a dismal 9-1 drubbing at the hands of title-chasing Stellenbosch FC, while Rise and Shine edged Cape Town City over the past weekend.

However, the point leaves the two outfits in the bottom-half spot with the host at the basement and Rise and Shine a few positions higher.
