Chiefs, City, Gallants and Sekhukhune lead the way
The first midweek action in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season saw four teams – Kaizer Chiefs, Durban City, Marumo Gallants and Sekhkhune United – emerge with their 100 per cent records intact.
The quartet are locked on six points at the top of the table, and Chiefs fans will be delighted to see their club flying high after last season’s struggles in the league.
The Amakhosi secured back-to-back wins by defeating a stubborn Polokwane City 1-0 at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday, thanks to a first goal for the club by midfielder Siphesihle Ndlovu.

Wednesday also saw Sekhukhune and Durban City continue their strong starts to the campaign: Babina Noko edged TS Galaxy in Polokwane courtesy of veteran Bradley Grobler, while newly-promoted City made it two wins from as many top-flight matches via a late goal from Joslin Kamatuka.
Golden Arrows also recorded their first win by defeating KwaZulu-Natal rivals Richards Bay 1-0 thanks to Junior Dion’s spectacular strike, while Magesi FC and Stellenbosch FC played out a 1-1 draw at Seshego Stadium – the visitors led via Langelihle Phili, but Dikwen tsa Meetse equalised through Kgomotso Mosadi.

Tuesday was headlined by Gallants dramatically defeating Orlando Pirates 2-1 at the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium thanks to Jaisen Clifford’s injury-time winner.
The result saw Bahlabane ba Ntwa record a second successive victory to sit atop the standings with six points, while the Buccaneers suffered a second straight loss – just the second time in PSL history (1996/97 onwards) that the Soweto giants have been beaten in their opening two league matches (the first was in 2007/08).
On the same night, Orbit College recorded their first-ever top-flight league win by defeating Siwelele 1-0 at the Dobsonville Stadium thanks to Letsie Koapeng’s strike, while champions Mamelodi Sundowns recorded a straightforward 2-0 home victory over AmaZulu courtesy of strikes from Iqraam Rayners and Tashreeq Matthews.
