All clubs return to action in Betway Premiership midweek matches

All 16 Betway Premiership teams will be in action this week as the league’s first round of midweek fixtures kicks-off on Tuesday and carries into Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Maumo Gallants will look to continue their winning start under new head coach Alexandre Lafitte when they face Orlando Pirates at the Dr Rantlai Petrus Stadium in Mangaung.

Siwelele will aim to retain their place at the top of the table against Orbit College at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto, while Mamelodi Sundowns hunt their first win of the season against AmaZulu at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria.

 

In Wednesday’s fixtures, Lamontville Golden Arrows will face Richards Bay at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi, while elsewhere in KwaZulu Natal, Durban City will hope to bounce back against Chippa United at the Chatsworth Stadium near Durban.

Kaizer Chiefs will attempt to continue their winning start against Polokwane City at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, Magesi will square-up with Stellenbosch at the Seshego Stadium in Seshego and Sekhukhune United will look to keep their momentum rolling as they face TS Galaxy at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

All games will be played at 7.30pm CAT on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

On the league’s opening day, Pirates fell to a strong Sekhukhune United side at home at the weekend, losing 1-0 courtesy of a Siphesihle Mkhize goal in the 48th minute. New head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou will look to rectify his side’s start to the league season as Sekhukhune look to capitalise on their spectacular start to the season.

 

 

Sundowns were held to a 1-1 draw by Chippa United on Saturday, while AmaZulu defeated newcomers Orbit College 1-0. Masandawana are aiming for their first win of the season, as are Orbit College.

Siwelele began life in the top flight in emphatic fashion, beating Golden Arrows 3-1 to take the top spot on the log. Similarly, Kaizer Chiefs overcame a stubborn 10-man Stellenbosch side in a 2-0 win. Both sides will look to keep the ball rolling, while Arrows and Stellies are out for redemption.

New head coach Alexandre Lafitte’s Marumo Gallants beat Richards Bay with a stoppage time winner, despite being reduced to 10-men late in the first half. TS Galaxy will look to register their first win after going down 2-0 to newcomers Durban City, who will look to establish themselves as competitors with another victory.

The only goalless game of the weekend was between Polokwane City and Masgesi, who shared the spoils. Both sides will be hunting three points this week.
