Sekhukhune look to keep up momentum against Galaxy

Sekhukhune United will look to keep up their early-season momentum when they host TS Galaxy for a Betway Premiership clash at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on the evening of Wednesday 13 August 2025. Kick-off is at 7.30pm CAT.

Sekhukhune got their Premiership season off to a perfect start when they stunned title hopefuls Orlando Pirates 1-0 in Soweto this past Saturday, as midfielder Siphesihle Mkhize scored the only goal of the game early in the second half.

Babina Noko had to ride their luck somewhat – with the woodwork coming to their rescue a couple of times – but they were good value for the victory, while the confidence and competence of their performance underlined their ambition to challenge for major honours this term.

Galaxy, meanwhile, were stunned by top-flight debutants Durban City in their opening league match on Sunday, going down 0-2 at home – Samkelo Maseko and Mfanafuthi Mkhize netted for the club from KwaZulu-Natal.

These teams have already crossed each other’s paths this season, meeting in an MTN8 quarterfinal on Saturday, 2 August, at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Galaxy established a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Mpho Mvelase and Victor Letsoalo, but Sekhukhune turned the game around to triumph 3-2 – Bradley Grobler made it 2-2 with strikes either side of halftime, before Vusumuzi Mncube netted a 69th minute winner.

Sekhukhune United coach Eric Tinkler has urged his team to keep up the high level of performance they have shown so far in 2025/26:

We’ve got a game [against Galaxy], so if we don’t win that, then this result [against Pirates] means nothing,” Tinkler said. “It’s about building on that – without becoming complacent. Consistency in performances is what’s key.”

He added, “We are creating a well-disciplined and cultured team. Beyond the tactical aspects, the players’ work ethic at training and on match day has to match. We have to transfer what we do at training to match day, and I am seeing that, which is a positive.”

Sekhukhune United – Siphesihle Mkhize

Fresh from scoring the only goal of the game against Pirates this past weekend, Mkhize will hope to make another major impact when Sekhukhune welcomes Galaxy to the Peter Mokaba Stadium. His energy, discipline and all-round play will come to the fore in the ‘engine room’.

TS Galaxy – Victor Letsoalo

The prolific striker has already scored against Sekhukhune this season – netting in the MTN8 quarterfinal defeat earlier this month – and he will be keen to terrorise Babina Noko’s defence again... though he will need better service than he received in their league defeat to Durban City.

Head-to-head

In head-to-head stats, Sekhukhune and Galaxy have met in eight top-flight league matches since they first crossed paths in 2021/22. The Rockets have claimed three wins compared to one for Babina Noko, while four games have been drawn.

Galaxy took four points off Sekhukhune last season, winning 3-1 in the Limpopo province in November 2024, and drawing 1-1 in the return game in Mpumalanga in April of 2025. Their most recent meeting overall was the above-mentioned MTN8 clash from earlier this month.
