Amakhosi eye consecutive victories against Polokwane City
After bagging an impressive 2-0 win against Stellenbosch FC in their 2025/25 Betway Premiership opener, the Glamour Boys will now turn their attention to Polokwane City at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Kick-off is at 7:30 pm (CAT, GMT+2)
CURRENT FORM
The Soweto giants commenced their campaign on a positive note, as Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Makabi Lilepo found the back of the net against Stellies at the Athlone Stadium last Sunday.
While Chiefs gained maximum points, Rise and Shine settled for a point in their goalless draw against Magesi at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium last time out.
WHAT WAS SAID
With Kaizer Chiefs yet to feature their new signings, Amakhosi assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef expressed that they will continue to find solutions on the pitch.
“When the new players come back to join us it will be better, they will give us more solutions, we waiting for them [for work permits], we continue to work,” Ben Youssef said.
“The most important things that we discussed now in the changing room is that we finished the game against Stellenbosch and we start thinking about the next game against Polokwane City. The most difficult thing for us is always think about the second game.
“As a coach, we have prepared for different playing plans, A, B, C, D, lot of plans, because they can get injury last training session.
“So for us, we prepare all the team, all of them, they can start the game. We prepare all the situation. And if they are available to play, we are lucky if they are not available, it’s our job to prepare the next play.”
Reflecting on his side’s draw with Magesi, Polokwane City coach Phuti Mohafe believed his side did all they could to find the back of the net.
“I think we created better goal-scoring chances than our opponents according to my perspective even though they had more possession of the match. Offensively we tried,” Mohafe said.
"We did well, we kept the shape and did not concede. The only thing we needed was to find the net, which did not happen.”
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Kaizer Chiefs: Nkosingiphile Ngcobo – After scoring a sensational free-kick against Stellenbosch last week, Ngcobo will no doubt head into the next game with added confidence. The 25-year-old is expected to play a crucial part in Amakhosi’s plans this season as he continues to improve in the middle of the park.
Polokwane City: Bonginkosi Dlamini – While Polokwane City fired blanks against Magesi, Dlamini remained a live wire as he clocked in 90 minutes for his side. Tipped for another starting berth, Dlamini’s direct play could cause Chiefs problems in the final third of the pitch.
